Events Diary

The Wandle Piscators is an active fishing club, and we’ve always got lots of great events being planned in the Wandle Valley and further afield. Why not come and join us?

Kids fishing at Cannon Hill

June 18th: Opening Day Open Day
Kick off the new coarse season with a visit to our open day at Cannon Hill Lake. There will be free tuition for juniors plus a chance to meet other members old and young. Refreshments will be provided, and we’ll also be holding a tackle clinic where you can discuss your tackle with experts and get advice on how to improve or balance your set up. Fly tying, riverfly monitoring, and knot exchange may also feature.
July 9th: The Big Match
We want to find out exactly what fish are in Cannon Hill Pond so we will have a 10 peg competition to fish the lake thoroughly. If you think you are up to competition fishing you can apply to compete – but you will be up against some of our best fishermen!
August 6th: Wandle Barbel Masterclass
Club Chairman Stewart Ridgway will be sharing his extensive knowledge of barbel fishing on the Wandle. Places will be limited. If there is sufficient interest he will run a second session. (Please reply to the thread on the forum to let us know you are interested).
September 24th: Open Day on the Wandle
There will be free tuition for juniors plus a chance to meet other members old and young. Refreshments will be provided, and we’ll also be holding a tackle clinic where you can discuss your tackle with experts and get advice on how to improve or balance your set up. Fly tying, riverfly monitoring and knot exchange may also feature.
River Wandle Cleanup sessions
On the second Sunday of every month 40-80 volunteers turn out to clean up a section of the River Wandle. This is a great way to get to know parts of the river in detail. You can wade in the river to collect junk but also explore the depth and nature of the river bottom.
